    Abstract

This paper draws on results that have been developed for the UK research program "The ESRC Research Group for the Study of Care, Values and the Future of Welfare". In this program, our objective was to investigate changes in practice and normative attitudes in the area of care. The background of the question formed the recent debates on the individualization and its associated long-term trends in gender relations and patterns of family formation. The information given is based on the "Friendship and Non-Conventional Partnership Project '. This sub-project of the research program was designed to explore the psychological and affective dimensions of care and unconventional, anti-heteronormative care practices that have so far been largely hidden from sociology.
