    Abstract

Childhood Studies, argues that liberal government takes childhood as its ideal target while excluding black children, girls and working class children from the full promise of liberal government and continues to govern these excluded groups through the assertion of sovereignty over them. Children respond to these governing practices in ways that are shaped by their own bodily capacities, cognitive resources and cultural practices. At this intersection between governing practices and the affordances of children’s bodies young subjects are made.
