    Abstract

Book synopsis: The images of alcohol, especially when it comes to France, convey a complex collective imagination. From medical, administrative, literary, media and advertising sources, the book examines the transformations of this image between two key dates in the history of modern anti-alcoholism: 1915, the year of the ban on absinthe And 1942, the year of the prohibition of aperitifs by the Vichy government. An exciting cultural history illustrated with reproductions of advertising posters.
