    Abstract

    Book synopsis: The critical role played by a city in the social, economic and political spheres of contemporary society has aroused an increasing interest among a wide range of researchers. The present book is an attempt to provide a contemporary outlook of the urban studies, especially in urban geography. This edited volume comprises articles of eminent professors as well as young and early carrier geographers and researcher of allied disciplines to cover various emerging issues with different approaches. The book presents a deep insight into the variety of problems encountered by a city and citizens in different parts of the country. The issues of neo-hausmanisation, gerontology, gender bias, crime and violence, sanitation, water supply, urban elderly, migration, urban poverty, solid waste management, dynamics of urban morphology, urban sprawl have been discussed in detail through case studies. This edited volume is expected to fulfil the needs of the students, scholars and academicians working on contemporary urban themes.
