    Abstract

Additional Information: Translated book synopsis: Italy has documentary heritage among the largest and most important in the world, accumulated over centuries as instruments of government before becoming places of research for scholars. What were the mechanisms, the places, the offices and the people who have allowed the formation, sorting and archive management? Who were archivists and relationships with companies and institutions had in the Middle Ages and the modern age? To these and other questions the book answers by adopting a comparative approach at the intersection of political and social history, history of written culture, the history of archives and archives. The essays collected here allow an innovative comparison between the various officials in charge of the preservation of documents in the ancient Italian states: notaries up to the clerks, custodians and the "filings" of kingdoms, principalities and republics, from Lombardy to Sicily, between the fifteenth and eighteenth century . This allows you to extend history and geography archive history beyond its traditional boundaries. At a time in history when the archives are unfortunately threatened by dramatic cuts in resources, this book aims to emphasize the importance that they have always had in the course of our history.
