    Abstract

    In this chapter, I explore and develop theory relating to the task-based approach to assessment centers (TBACs). First, it will be shown that TBACs borrow heavily from a range of behavioral approaches, including the literature on performance feedback and applied behavior analysis. Second, systems theory and the literature on management roles will be used to describe the constructs that TBACs purport to measure. Third, behavioral consistency will be presented to add insights into the potential usefulness of TBACs for predicting work-related outcomes. This chapter suggests that the TBAC approach holds advantages in terms of avoiding internal attributions and enhancing developmental feedback and employment decisions.
