Abstract
It is a good moment to recall the significance of Alan Sinfield's work for the ever volatile theorizing and practices embracing the possibilities and limits of rethinking gender, sexualities and the dissident subcultures of the left committed to any form of radical egalitarianism. Whether exploring the potential and limits of subversive performativities, the abject place of the ‘feminine’ in gay and straight cultures alike, or the possible fit between queer theory, commerce and neo-liberalism, Alan Sinfield's writing remains enduringly passionate and provocative, making him one of the key thinkers of our time.
