Abstract
This essay attempts to explore the intersection between the left and 'the international'; this is the area where the political struggles of the next century will be verified. After defining "the international" as the international system, we analyze the experience of the left in this sphere with reference to three axes: the theoretical, the political and the philosophical. After highlighting the value of leftist internationalist thinking for the world today, a series of general reconceptualizations are outlined that the left has to address if it wants to continue to play the role of political and theoretical world leadership that corresponds to it.
