Abstract
This workshop will give participants a background to the social, technical, and economic considerations in the brave new world of open-access publishing for academic journals. Led by Martin Paul Eve, Professor of Literature, Technology and Publishing at Birkbeck, University of London and co-founder of the Open Library of Humanities, the workshop will present a practical and down-to-earth overview of the nuts and bolts, but also a general orientation to open access and the current policy environment with respect to research publication. Specific elements covered within the workshop will include: * Technical platform choices * Editorial board and peer-review procedures * Digital preservation * Digital Object Identifiers * Open access policy * Production workflows and XML * Workflow scheduling There will also be time within the workshop for extensive Q&As on all aspects of the procedure.
