Abstract
Book synopsis: Der Band erschließt mittelalterliche Überlieferung und ihre sozialen und kulturellen Funktionen aus einer neuen räumlichen und methodischen Perspektive. Nach einer wissenschaftshistorischen Einführung werden textliche, bildliche und materielle Überlieferungsformen an Beispielen aus Mittel- und Südosteuropa vorgestellt. Problemorientiert wird Einblick in Entstehungszusammenhänge, soziokulturelle und politische Hintergründe, Forschungstraditionen und Quellenkritik geboten. Klassische Ordnungskriterien und -kategorien der Beschreibung von Quellen werden räumlich und zeitlich differenziert, methodische Zugänge wissenschaftshistorisch und gesellschaftspolitisch kontextualisiert, Gemeinsamkeiten und Unterschiede im räumlichen Vergleich herausgearbeitet.
