Open access payments pose tracking problem
Bisson, Robin and Eve, Martin Paul (2020) Open access payments pose tracking problem. Research Fortnight , ISSN 1358-1198.
Abstract
A survey of 1,014 researchers by Springer Nature has found that 50 per cent of authors publishing in their journals pay open access fees using funding sources that are hard to monitor, such as research grants or personal funds. In a white paper, the publisher says the transition to full open access will slow unless institutions can better monitor such payments. But open access expert Martin Eve said tracking payments is “probably most of use to publishers who want to enter negotiations with librarians”.
