Abstract
Aim of the study: The aim is to determine whether inequality and urbanization are factors influencing the development of this pandemic. Design/methodology: The methodology of the study is to analyse infection data of eight individual countries that are available from the World Health Organization and determine if per capita GDP, population, population density, air travel and population size of the capital cities are factors affecting the spread of the pandemic. Findings: The study results show that socioeconomics and air travel are factors which enhance the spread of infection. Originality/value: The study is an important contribution to understanding the development of the pandemic and factors enhancing the spread of infection and can assist governments to plan control measures for future pandemics.
