Abstract
Book synopsis: In recent years, the vision of a royal power imposing an authoritarian and unilateral was discussed, and today the notion of absolutism is under debate. This book reads the history of parliaments under Louis XIV in the light of these new questions. Through issues as diverse as policing, remonstrances, the anti-Protestant policy, the presence of the Jansenists, relations with other institutions, it provides avenues to try a replay of a long neglected chapter History parliaments. Co-published with the Society for the History and Archaeology of Britain.
