Abstract
Event synopsis: Intellectuals were major players in the s. XX, in the consolidation of the great democracies and its crisis, without them can not be understood processes such as the formation of public opinion or the nationalization of the masses. The short century saw intellectuals critical of power erected in society guides and prophets of the future, but also servers totalitarian ideologies and priests of the new political religions. Its heyday in the sixties, was accompanied by the first signs announcing their final against the depletion of the great stories and the fragmentation of knowledge, which thereafter require specialists, interpreters and media communicators. This seminar the Pablo Iglesias Foundation wants to propose a reflection on the Spanish intelligentsia between 1939 and 1986, including the main contributions on the subject have appeared in recent years and subject to debate. The first date as the beginning of a new situation, after the break of the war, both inside the Franco dictatorship Outside exile. The second conclusion as symbolic of the transition and consolidation of democracy, after joining the European Community, where some phenomena characteristic of the second Franco and the transition gave way to another characteristic of the present democratic culture.
