The talk will focus on the complexity of the visual representation of the slaves blacks, a large population in the imperial Spain. Although few in number, the artworks show the presence of slaves in urban centers and attitudes imperialists towards the marginalized. This is the case of the Castilian images miracle of the black leg of the sixteenth century, that depart radically from the iconography European medieval miraculous healing performed by Saints Cosmas and Damian, to focus on the physical pain of the Spanish-African slave.
