Abstract
In recent years there has developed an extensive literature on the interaction between universities and business , it is still much more to learn about the factors that encourage these interactions in the context of Italian and in particular in the context of specific regional innovation systems . Focusing on the case of Piedmont , we present the range of channels of interaction between companies and universities in the region , and in particular we examine what factors influence the choice of firms to use particular forms of governance partnerships and collaborate with regional universities rather than universities located outside the region. Then we obtain some more general reflections relevant to the national context.
