    Abstract

Translated book synopsis: Think and (d) writing the illustration: the report to the image in the literature of the XVIII th and XIX th centuries offers a new look at the history of illustration, from the perspective of writers. At the same time form and idea, ornament of the book and supplement of the narration, the illustration always invaded the ground of the literature. The emergence during this period of new techniques of illustration, from lithography to photography, inspired both a certain iconophobia and a great creativity in the field of literature. The texts in this volume reveal strongly divergent attitudes towards the image as well as an increasingly innovative exchange between the written and the visual.
