Xenakis, Sappho (2013) Approaches to corruption research. In: Regional Training on Researching Police Corruption, 15th April 2013, Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces, Belgrade, Serbia. (Unpublished)
Abstract
The police, as the security force most visible to citizens, forms the face of security and shape public perceptions of national security. Issues of police corruption are, therefore, important not only in that corruption damages and distorts the provision of security, but also in the negative impact that it has on the public’s perception of safety, security and justice. That being said, issues and incidences of corruption are not often identified, examined and addressed. As such, the DCAF Regional Training on Police Corruption Research programme aimed to equip civil society researchers in the Western Balkans with the necessary skills and expertise to carry out national and regional research projects on police corruption.
