Abstract
This article discusses the political conditions under which the cultural and political legacy of the Spanish Republican exile is recovered during the Spanish Transition to democracy. It pays particular attention to the case study of Jorge Semprun and his role and that of his work during the aforementioned Transition and beyond, in the late 1980s, as a Culture Minister under the socialist government of PSOE
