Abstract
Book synopsis: The Diary of John Evelyn (1620-1706) was for many years the principal window through which history viewed the English forester and horticulturalist, advocate of the arts, and founding member of the Royal Society. Coming into the possession of the British Library in the 1990s the archives of his papers have now allowed a fuller and more nuanced view.
