    Abstract

Considers, with reference to studies involving adult and youth participants, how the ability of victims, witnesses and defendants to engage with the criminal court process may be affected by "court culture". Discusses key aspects of such culture, including the formal nature of proceedings, and the divide between court users and legal professionals. Suggests how these may undermine reforms aimed at promoting effective participation in proceedings.
