Abstract
Book synopsis: Dedicated to the memory of the eminent scholar C.A. Mayer, this volume of studies celebrates as much as it commemorates its work. It reflects the many aspects of the Renaissance. Poetry, music, painting, piety, politics, cultural exchanges, comic theater and satire, all these facets are illuminated here. Given the great work of Mayer, the critical edition of Clément Marot, it is, of course, Marot himself, his background and his legacy are here in the place of honor. Studies on the biblical epíllion of Rémy Belleau and J.-A. Baif, translator, in the Eunuque represent the work of the Pléiade, while the cultural exchanges are illustrated by the reception of Machiavel in France and by the visions of Rome recovered by Montaigne. The Cymbalum Mundi, the Menippee Satire and the dramatic monologues of Bruscambille finally shed light on certain trends in the satirical spirit of the Renaissance.
