    Abstract

    It will be shown in the following essay, as in England and Germany extremely popular and celebrated as a 'genius' Elizabeth Singer Rowe early 18 Century, a role model in the development of the epistolary novel takes, but then because of their gender and their religious intentions of the Literary research is largely ignored. Especially Rowe's friendship in death, which was translated by the influential Johann Mattheson and imitated by Meta Klopstock and Wieland, already shows the combination of romantic love and moral instruction, which contributes to the literarization of the letter in Germany and thus prepares the novels Richardsons and La Roches , The fictive and subjective presentation of virtue, the problem of seduction and the cult of friendship establish decisive tendencies that are of decisive importance for the early literary tradition of women.
