Abstract
Book synopsis: Military were and are popular objects for biographers. They too have made history with their memoirs. Their biographies, memoirs and testimonies - diaries, letter collections, etc. - are constituent parts of a remarkable military memory culture. Their cognitive value is in this book. On individual examples such as Tilly, Moltke d. J. or Erich Raeder and collective as the "Legion Condor", the Spanish "Blue Division", which was used on the Eastern Front 1941-1943, or the appearance of Wehrmacht generals in the postwar rearmament debate show 18 contributions German and international perspective on how fruitful a methodically reflected biographical access can be, not only for military history.
