Abstract
Book synopsis: Acts of speech and courtesy in Spanish is a compilation of recent works dealing with different acts of speech in Spanish and the relationship that its linguistic realization has with the rules of courtesy in force in the communities under study. Speech acts that are examined, from different theoretical and methodological perspectives -pragmatics, discourse analysis (critical), linguistic anthropology and conversation analysis- include, among others, offers, requests, compliments, and claims. Speaking communities from Argentina, Bolivia, Spain, Mexico, Venezuela and Uruguay are represented. Studies such as those presented here have not reached in Spanish the degree of interest and dissemination they have had in other languages. Thus, this volume attempts to fill a gap in publications in the area and constitutes a step forward towards a register that encompasses the different Spanish-speaking communities.
