Book synopsis: Lessons given on the occasion of the XI Summer Course of the Institute of Contemporary History of the New University of Lisbon held in 2002, where specialists from various fields of knowledge proceeded to synthesize the fundamental characteristics of the great contemporary doctrinal and ideological currents. Antonio Costa Pinto, Mário Sottomayor Cardia, João Madeira, António Reis, Eduardo Prado Coelho, João Ferreira do Amaral, among others, bring together in this volume their political and philosophical reflections on what has most contributed to the changes in public opinion and in the society of the century. XX, to which the crisis of the liberal system (1900-1945), the ideological confrontations in the bipolar world (1945-1989) and globalization gave expression.
