Abstract
Book synopsis: Famous for his classic film, "The Birth of a Nation", most of Griffith's later films were widely regarded as failures. This work studies every extant Griffith film and aims to show that his thematic concerns formed a perfect match with his unique style to offer an alternative to Hollywood hegemony.
