    Abstract

The reports of two meetings jointly organised by the National Theatre Studio, the Young Vic and me, on behalf of Birkbeck, to discuss issues around widening the diversity of directors entering and progessing in the theatre industry. The meetings were held on 23rd July and 8th October 2014. As a consequence of these meetings I have been working with the Young Vic and the Regional Theatre Young Directors' Scheme on undertaking a longtitudinal survey of emerging directors to discover the obstacles that prevent directors from diverse backgrounds pursuing careers as theatre directors. The Memorandum of Understanding between the RTYDS and Birkbeck, which has been written by me, with advice from the Research office, decsribes the long-term project.
