Abstract
In this paper, I present some preliminary findings from two recent projects on which I have been working, both of which are concerned with the second-order interpretative moves that we perform upon texts that are trying to establish a set of mimetic truth claims. The first of these corpora is the database of peer reviews in the world’s largest academic journal, PLOS ONE. The second is the first chapter of David Mitchell’s prize-winning and genre-bending 2004 novel, Cloud Atlas.
