Abstract
This article accompanies and provides a theoretical and historical elaboration of two essay films on the work of the photojournalist, Bert Hardy. The films highlight and explore the aesthetic qualities that both authors had come to admire in their previous work on post-war visual media and asks the question can film examine the aesthetics of photography in ways that an academic article cannot.
