    Abstract

This paper reviews articles in the mental health field employing qualitative methods and articles in medical and related journals discussing qualitative methodology.Three broad substantive areas are examined: the phenomenology of particular conditions, processes occurring in therapy and attitudes towards community care. Issues considered include validity in qualitative methodology and its relationship with quantitative methodology.
