Abstract
An essay for a catalogue to accompany the exhibition of the Ruth and Peter Herzog collection of photographs at the Kunstmuseum, Basel, 2020. The text appears in both German and English. The essay looks at the place of work in photography, both photography as work and work depicted in images. It rejects the modernising vision of large-scale industry as norm and argues for attending the the multiple forms of labour on a global scale.
