Abstract
This chapter introduces readers to the study of requests in Spanish. Requests are commonplace speech acts that can be found in multiple social contexts in everyday life. The chapter looks at categories of requests and the analysis of requests in terms of their elements and linguistic realizations. It also considers different social and situational factors that can have an impact on request realization. Examples from authentic interactions on- and off-line are provided. Finally, the chapter provides some activities for analysis with guidance for students.
