Kawakami, Akane (2021) Le kanji et la photographie: représenter la ville dans « la chambre du fond ». In: UNSPECIFIED (ed.) Essais sur Michael Ferrier. Paris, France: Honore Champion. ISBN 9782745356130.
Abstract
Book synopsis: This book is the first critical collection entirely devoted to the work of Michaël Ferrier, writer and professor of literature living in Tokyo for almost thirty years, and author of novels and essays tackling some of the most pressing issues of our time: migrations and exile, intercultural and linguistic exchanges, environmental issues and the dangers of nuclear power... The metaphor of coral therefore reflects well the protean and abundant character of this work, emanating from a conception of literature as a plural island space, nourished by phenomena of hybridity and interbreeding, between political, historical and memorial considerations. Aimed at all lovers of contemporary French literature, of which Michaël Ferrier is one of the leading figures, this collective volume deals more particularly with areas dear to the author such as relations between France and Japan; representations of this country and its vibrant capital in art and popular culture; or even the Fukushima disaster, of which he was a direct witness in 2011 and which he notably mentioned in a powerful story of the same name.
