Abstract
The paper uses the work of William S Burroughs to explore the possibility and meaning of critique and resistance. In particular, it questions the viability of these in light of neo-liberal systems of communications and competition, in and through which life has become essentially paranoid. Against this, it suggests that contingency must be embraced as the condition for human sustainability.
