    Abstract

This paper addresses the notion of the archive, specifically in the context of recording improvised music, and counter-poses this to the Schmittian/Pauline idea of the katechon. It argues that, whilst the difference between archive and katechon is slight, nevertheless this crucial difference allows for the possibility of decisiveness without exceptionalism.
