    Abstract

The articulation between social order and autonomy that underlies the notion of employability has become increasingly complex since it supposes the development of contradictory attitudes, according to the political and labor ethos of our contemporary society, which combine productivity, governmentality and freedom. Based on the fifindings of our exploratory qualitative and quantitative study done in Santiago with youth of lower socio-economic strata, this article discusses the tensions and risks associated to the notion of employability. Our study has shown that when biographies are organized around normative horizons which differ from the legal and/or socially accepted ones, the youth becomes un-employable.
