Henkel, Imke (2016) Support for Brexit is no longer minority viewpoint on the British left. London School of Economics and Political Science.
Abstract
This article analyses the referendum coverage of the Guardian, arguing that although the newspaper officially took a position against Britain leaving the EU, leading left-wing Guardian journalists adopted a position that mirrored the right-wing British exceptionalism which refuses to understand Britain as on European nation among others. The article also argues that an exclusively quantitative study of the referendum media coverage does not sufficiently capture a pro- or anti-EU tendency.
