Abstract

An analysis of the concept of "perception" in Heimito von Doderer's fictional work. Doderer uses the concept of conception to heal the broke modern world and re-create the possibility of living a wholesome life. In the context of modernity of the early 20th century Doderer represents the 'anti-moderns'. However, his novels become increasingly pessimistic about the possibility of healing and living 'as a whole'.
