Abstract
This chapter discusses the development and neural basis of face and eye gaze processing in typical and atypical developmental populations. Contrary to the view that there are innate mechanisms, interactive specialization emphasizes the importance of the gradual specialization of individual regions through their emerging role within brain networks starting from a few initial predispositions.
