    Abstract

Additional Information: Google translation of book synopsis: Case-studies and historiographical accounts, and focalizations diachronic overviews of individual figures of kings and emperors debate the guideline of the congress (held in Florence in September 2009) that gave rise to this volume: the relationship between power and religion, with special reference religious policies implemented by the ancient authorities, from the archaic and classical Greece to late antiquity until the Roman-Germanic and Justinian. We derive new perspectives on the responses (guidelines normative, coercive practices, mechanisms mediated Control) adopted by the authority in religious matters before phenomena perceived as somehow destabilizing: national traditions, cults 'foreigners', violent rituals, religions from the universalistic message like Christianity, and on the other hand, during the empire now Christian and Catholic tendencies considered heretical extremes and the sighs of paganism, in its persistence or its polytheistic and philosophical connotations more inclined to compromise. At the same time is not precluded from reading articles in the volume of twenty-one, impossible to consider the more general reconsideration of the nature of ancient religion, religion in his steps 'civic' in imperial religion until its final morphology of Late Antiquity , characterized by the unusual configuration of relationships between res publica and ecclesia. Finally, if a space is often given significant conceptual and pragmatic approach to the problem of religious tolerance in the context under consideration, there is hardly necessary to say how much, especially for this type of approach, the stresses have been incidents received by the renewed weight of religious identities in these first years of the new millennium and the issues of government religious transformations so present in every part of the world in the aftermath of the epochal migration in progress.
