Abstract

Book synopsis: This book has as its starting point the work of Raymond Mougeon whose research advances the réflexionde more than a generation of researchers interested in language contact. It brings together 16 contributions studying in contact varieties of French in Quebec, Western Canada, France and the United States. The authors discuss issues of critical social and linguistic contact languages: French standard of what is learned by speakers of French as a second language? How to distinguish the various Francophone communities in minority situations and how speakers perceive their own situation? The extent to which Canadian French is so different from other varieties of French in the French-speaking?
