Abstract

Book synopsis: The Body and its Images in Eighteenth-century Europe focuses on sculptures, paintings, medical treaties and philosophical or literary pieces concerning the body during the 18th century. It shows that the body often speaks for something else and that it serves as an instrument or pretext.
