Abstract
This chapter provides a critique of the 2012/13 reforms of part-time student finances inEngland, and of the 2011White Paper Students at the Heart of the system more generally. Itargues that the new loans introduced for part-time students in 2012/12 are more likely to re-enforce or perpetuate existing injustices rather than eradicate them and have contributed to a fall in enrolments, contrary to the governments’ intentions. Alternative policies are proposed, to improve the financial aid part-time students receive
